Treatment For Arrhythmias

Treatment for arrhythmias varies according to severity and location. When the danger is eminent such as occurs with ventricle fibrillation, a shock is given reestablish the pulse to normal levels.
Radiofrequency ablation is given to treat supra ventricular tachycardia. On occasion devices will be inserted such as an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The ICD measures abnormalities and sends an electrical shock to the heart. Bradycardia and heart blocks are often treated by implanting a pacemaker.
Symptoms of Arrhythmias
Tachycardia may result in palpitations, rapid heart beat, chest pain fainting.
Bradycardia may result in lethargy, dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting.
Diagnosis of Arrhythmia

He/she may order tests to make a determination such as an Electrocardiogram or Electro physiologic study.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
An Electrocardiogram measures the electrical impulses as they transverse the heart. A patient has a series of 10 electrodes placed on their chest and the readings are sent to a machine that registers the impulses and graphs of those are recorded on a graph.
Electro Physiologic Study (EPS)
For an EPS thin tubes (catheters) are inserted in to a vein in the leg near the junction of the stomach. The catheters are guided using a fluoroscope, into the heart, and there electrical signals are measured. This technology can also be used to stimulate the pulse or in addition, to test the effects of different medications on the heart.
