What Does Policosanol Consist Of?

Policosanol is a mixture of fatty alcohols, or, in other words, they are a mixture of different organic compounds found in plants. In the case of Cuba, it came from sugar cane, but it can also be extracted from yam and beeswax. So, by mixing octanosol, triacontanol, behenyl alcohol, lignoceryl alcohol, ceryl alcohol, 1-heptacosanol, 1-nonacosanol, 1-dotriacontanol, and geddyl alcohol, you obtain policosanol.

But, which is the best policosanol? There is no consensus, yet, of which policosanol is the best one: the derived from sugar cane, the one found at yam or the policosanol extracted from beeswax. It may take many decades for answering that question correctly. What is real is that any of them helps to fight cholesterol. In what degree, is still a mystery.

Benefits Of Policosanol

Now that the question of what is policosanol has been answered, let's take a look at it's benefits. The main one is that it reduces the amount of bad cholesterol; policosanol will clean your arteries, permitting the free flow of blood through out your body, without any kind of obstacles. That means that all your body will receive the nourishment that it requires and will work without problems.

The second benefit of policosanol is that it raises the level of good cholesterol. Contrary to bad cholesterol, which takes cholesterol to the body, good cholesterol takes it back to the liver, where it can be re-utilized or destroyed, depending on the needs of your body.

The third benefit of policosanol is that it can be used for fighting atherosclerosis. In the US, and in the whole world, there are millions of people who suffer from this disease. It has been found that policosanol can alleviate this disease, by removing the atheroma, which is the nodular accumulation that generates this problem.
