Heart Bypass Surgery

Heart bypass surgery is done to by-pass blocked arteries and to facilitate easy supply of blood to the heart. This is usually done incase of block in more than one artery. Consequently, the blood flow to the heart is made easy without any obstruction.

When the arteries are blocked, it can cause pain in the chest .This condition is called as angina. At times, there will not be any pain until the blood supply becomes very less. Consequently the muscle begins to die. This can lead to deadly heart attack.

With the help of by-pass surgery, an alternative route for the blood supply is created around the blocked part of the artery. This surgery is called as Coronary Artery Bypass Graft or CABG. When the patient is completely free from the pain, the surgeon separates the breast bone by making an incision in the middle of the chest. Incision is made to analyze the condition of the heart and aorta which is the main blood vessel leading from the heart to the rest of the body.
